Art Knife Invitational 2007 - Harvey Dean
#1 “SHEFFIELD ENGLISH BOWIE”

This piece was inspired by a knife made in the middle of the 19th century by the W. Butcher Company in Sheffield, England. The knife has a 9-inch carbon steel blade forged from 1084 high carbon steel, German silver, double dumbbell guard, decorative ferrule and checkered ebony handle with 18K gold escutcheons and pins. During the 19th century a checkered handle was considered the ultimate choice. This knife is accompanied by a black throat and tip scabbard.

#2 “ELEPHANTS TOENAIL”

The “Elephants Toenail” has always been one of my favorite multi-bladed folder patterns. This version is made as a three-bladed whittler. The main blade is three and one-eighth inches long. Each of the small blades is two inches long. All blades are made from 1075 and 15N20 steels in a ladder pattern forged by maker. The knife features stainless steel bolsters which are engraved and gold inlayed. The mammoth ivory handle is secured by 18K gold pins and has one 18K gold escutcheon.

#3 “DIABLO FIGHTER”
This knife has a nine-inch feather patterned damascus blade, forged by maker from 1075 and 15N20 steels. The piece has an engraved double sculptured, stainless guard, nice mammoth ivory handle and is accompanied by a custom sheath.

#4 “KENNESAW D-GUARD”

This knife features an eleven-inch damascus blade in a West Texas wind pattern forged by maker. The knife features a damascus D-guard, sterling silver ferrule and sterling silver butte cap. Both ferrule and butte cap are engraved. The handle is fashioned from fossilized walrus ivory. A custom made sheath accompanies the knife.
