Art Knife Invitational 2007 - Larry Fuegen
#1 “CALIFORNIA BOWIE”

Overall length – 10 ½ " Inspired by design elements found on the elegant Bowies of the California gold rush period, this Bowie features a traditional forged 5 7/8" carbon steel blade with a hand rubbed finish. The use of carved damascus for the handle which is complimented with a carved and engraved solid 14K gold handle wrap make this a unique feature. The guard and spacers are fashioned from carved 14K gold and sterling silver. The custom sheath features an exotic frog skin overlay and sterling silver throat and tip with 14K gold and carved damascus accents. All work by maker.

#2 “GENTLEMAN’S BOWIE”

Overall length – 13” The American Bowie has always been a classic design and this Bowie follows in that same tradition. The hand forged 8” ladder pattern damascus blade gives it a contemporary look while the richly colored fossil walrus ivory handle with its deeply carved floral design is reminiscent of the finely crafted exhibition knives of the late 1800’s. A 14K gold band and sterling silver spacers between the handle and the carved damascus guard add to the classic look of the Bowie. A custom sheath with an alligator overlay and sterling silver throat and tip accented with 14K gold and carved damascus accompanies this Bowie. All work by maker.

#3 “CARVED PUSH DAGGER”

Overall length – 5 ½” Always a favorite with the well-dressed gentleman, this little push dagger is discreet, yet potent. The 3 ¼” carved ladder pattern damascus blade seems to blossom from its sculptured bolsters and carved fossil walrus ivory handles. The file worked liners, 14K gold tang overlay and pins add a special touch of sophistication to the overall design. A custom dress sheath with black stingray overlay and sterling silver throat and tip with 14K gold and carved damascus accompany this push dagger. All work by maker.

#4 “CARVED DAMASCUS SLIPJOINT FOLDER”

Overall length – 5 ½” The carved damascus handles and the 2 3/8” ladder pattern damascus Wharncliff style blade give this little folder a unique look. This is a new design for me this year. The art nouveau styling is further enhanced with the use of 14K gold for the pins, spring overlay and lanyard ring. An alligator belt pouch accompanies this folder to allow for easy transport and enjoyment. This folder is numbered #5. All work by maker.

#5 “REVIVAL FOLDER”

Overall length – 6 3/8” Carved mother-of-pearl handles and 14K gold accents are combined with file worked stainless steel liners, carved steel bolsters and a 2 ¾” damascus Wharncliff style blade to create this art nouveau influenced lock back folder. I designed the “Revival” folder in 1997. This year marks its 10th anniversary and it has always been a popular design among collectors. This one is numbered #29 on the inside of the lockbar next to my name. A custom leather belt pouch accompanies this folder. All work by maker.
