Art Knife Invitational 2009 - Larry Fuegen
#1 PUSH DAGGER

Always a classic, the small "T" handled push dagger was the choice of gentlemen who ventured down unknown streets from New Orleans to San Francisco. The carved 3.5 inch ladder pattern Damascus blade is complemented with a polished bolster and 14K gold overlays. The creamy white mammoth ivory handles are carved in the Art Nouveau style, while the tang is file worked and overlaid with 14K gold. A custom leather sheath with a brown frog overlay completes this offering. All work by maker.

#2 DAMASCUS ART DAGGER

The dagger has evolved over centuries and has taken many forms. It still retains those classic symmetrical lines today, and this dagger brings together carved Damascus, French grayed steel, ancient fossil walrus ivory and 14K gold to continue that tradition. The 9.25 inch carved ladder pattern Damascus blade is fitted with carved French grayed steel fittings, gold spacers and a beautifully colored fossil walrus ivory handle that is fully carved. A custom sheath with French grayed fittings accompanies this dagger. All work by maker.

#3 GENTLEMAN'S DRESS BOWIE

Traditional lines and classic styling give this Bowie a unique look and feel. The 8 inch forged to shape ladder pattern Damascus blade has a 5 inch clip point, and it fitted with a carved Damascus guard and fluted spacer with 14K gold bands. The richly colored ancient walrus ivory handle is carved and surrounded by a Sterling Silver handle wrap. A custom leather sheath with Sterling Silver fittings add to the traditional charm of his Bowie. All work by maker.

#4 GOBLIN FOLDER

Horns, fangs, claws and a wiggly tongue are all part of this creature that has emerged from the carved crown stag handle. All aspects of this folder revolve around this creature. Part knife, part American folk art, the line is blurred and this is the creature's world. A 4.5 inch carved Damascus blade, 14K gold, Sterling Silver, fossil ivory, colored steel and stag are the basic materials used. This Goblin Folder is presented on a custom display base. All work by maker.
