Art Knife Invitational 2009 - Pierre Reverdy
#1 THE LINK

It took the talents of both Nicole and Pierre Reverdy to create this unique art piece called, “The Link”. The link is between the people; the invisible force that joins human beings. Nicole drew the pattern that Pierre used to create the pattern (this is a new step in Damascus). She also designed and sculpted the empty crown. Following the theme of “The Link”, the people of the crown are joined together by the outside. The inside can be taken out so there is no tang and you can see through it. As for the poetic Damascus blade, it is the first Damascus pattern with no visible junction of blocs. It’s just a magical dance, as on the pommel. The handle is made of ancient ivory. Nicole sculpted the outside 15” x 15” x 12” sculpture in bronze. The dagger measures 14”. This creation is number 3/12. “The Link” won the Jim Schmidt Award at the February, 2009, New York show.

#2 SILVER STAG

Using the strength and the lines of the stag, the handle is a kind of sculpture. Unique lost wax cast silver was used for the pommel and the guard with sparks of 18 carat gold. The six inch blade is forged with Sandinox. Pierre produced and forged his own stainless Damascus sandwich with the powerful powder metallurgy steel for the perfect edge. Sole authorship creation.

#3 EAGLES FOLDER

Eagles are flying in the gray sky of the blade in this new pattern of poetic Damascus. The bolsters are sculpted in silver with organic design. The scales are like a sky view: blue, orange and some black for the clouds. It’s an incredible piece of ancient walrus ivory. Gold rivets and stainless Damascus “bail” (what is in the end of the folder?). The knife is 8 inches in length.

#4 CLAIR OBSCURE

Like the palette of the great painter, Caravaggio, this piece was evoked by the colors of the oosik handle. A touch of clear with the mammoth ivory pommel inserted. A bright contrast also on the sandwich stainless Damascus “Sandinox” made and forged by Pierre. The silver guard was sculpted and created using a unique lost wax casting process. Sole authorship creation.

#5 SKYDREAM

Like a long dream where an elegant blade pierced a meteorite, that became the guard. The handle of mammoth ivory is sculpted smooth on the top and evokes wind and storm on the bottom. Meteorite fitted on silver inserted for the pommel and presented on a sculpted altuglass stand. The blade measures 11 inches. Total length is 17.5 inches. Sole authorship creation.
